Lauren Michelle Hill is the Playboy Playmate for February 2001. Playboy discovered Lauren Michelle Hill at a swimsuit competition in St. Croix. But she’s been in front of the camera her entire life.
“Mom owned a modeling agency and used to take her girls to New York,” she tells us. “As soon as school was over we’d go there for the summer. Mom would take all four of us — I have two brothers and a sister — to auditions. Every one of us has acted and modeled. Even our cat. He was in That Darn Cat. We got him from the set.”
Lauren modeled clothes for department store catalogs and posed for the art on Hasbro toy boxes (she’s not telling which ones, but we’re sure they’d make great collectibles). As a well-coiffed teenager she appeared in ads for hair care products and was spotted by film producers on location in the South.
“In Heavyweights, the movie with Ben Stiller about kids at a weight-loss camp, I played the dream girl at a dance. They do a slow motion of me walking across the floor.” Not one to let the job description “dream girl” remain just an entry on her résumé, she took a break from landlocked Columbia, South Carolina and tried her luck in Los Angeles. Within a week she’d landed on the Baywatch beach.
“In one episode I played one of the boy-crazy junior lifeguards who are sent away for a weekend to learn about teamwork. A strong current sweeps two of the girls into a cave and another girl and I run back and bring everyone to rescue them.” Lauren laughs. “Isn’t that a great plot summary? I can’t believe how that show keeps going on and on.”

Jennifer and Natalie Campbell are the Playboy Playmates for December 2008. The identical twins from Colorado who delight in their differences despite their obvious similarities. Both played volleyball in high school, both attended the University of Northern Colorado, both have dogs, and they all live together. Jennifer, the older twin feels she is more of a girlie-girl and more studious, notwithstanding her racy tattoo — a butterfly on her lower stomach. Natalie describes herself as more of an athletic tomboy who enjoys boating, camping and fishing. “Our parents were really good about letting us be individuals,” says Jennifer. “We each definitely have our own personality.”

The twins moved to southern California last May to pursue the opportunity. “We miss home, but we love it here,” says Natalie. My father lives in Spain, along with most of my extended family. Examine the evidence before you in the curvy form of Crystal McCahill, the 25-year-old daughter of Miss August 1968 Gale Olson. “I think every girl who has the figure for it wishes she could be a Playmate, and I’m no exception,” said Gale in her Playmate interview. “All I can say is, I am lucky!” Yet when luck strikes twice, it seems less like luck than destiny. (It has happened just once before, when Miss December 1960 Carol Eden saw her daughter Simone grace the Centerfold in February 1989.)
“I always knew my mother was in Playboy,” says the Illinois-born Crystal. “I remember telling my brothers and sisters, ‘I’m going to do that one day. I’m going to do the exact same pose.’ I mentioned it to my mom when I was about 15, and she said, ‘Wait a few years and then decide.’ Now she’s totally for it and so excited for me.”
Everything changed quickly for Crystal after she tried out during our 55th anniversary Playmate search. She received positive feedback, and then she ran into the Girls Next Door, filming at Hooters. “Bridget came over and asked if she could interview me for her radio show,” says Crystal. “A few days later I ran into Photography Director Gary Cole for a second time at a restaurant. He said, ‘Yes, I think it’s meant to be.’ Then I met Hef, whom I love and think is such an incredible person. All those years I waited to be a Playmate like my mom, and this just happened so fast. I think if you believe in it, you can do whatever you want.”

You can probably find Miss July participating in some kind of sport in British Columbia when she’s home. “I’m a really good swimmer and played basketball, volleyball and soccer in high school,” she reports. But long before Kimberley played sports, practiced the violin or took up cheerleading for her school’s basketball team, her parents thought her gorgeous blue eyes were picture-perfect and camera ready. “I modeled for some catalogs and local stores when I was a baby,” she says. “I was making money and was way too young to even know I had it.” Kimberley contemplated going to college for fashion design, took several lifeguard classes and worked as a bartender before considering a complete career reversal. “I really want to be an elementary schoolteacher, because I love kids,” she says. “I’m really not into being in the spotlight at all.” But Kimberley is the first to admit the spotlight has its perks, as her time with Playboy attests. “I went to the Grammys with Hef and six other girls,” she says. “We got these fancy dresses and walked down the red carpet.
